I read an article in a Southwest Airlines magazine recently that talked about the concept of “running scared”. It was just a short piece among other business related topics. The author mentioned that Bernie Marcus, founder of Home Depot, used this term to describe the early days of Home Depot. I had some free time in the airport, thanks to a 4 hour delay, so I spent some of that time thinking about this concept.
I have always thought of myself as a left brain person. And, there are certainly times when I have wished I was more of a right brain person. However, I read a great article recently that has made me rethink this classification. The article is from “Strategy + Business“, written by William Duggan and titled “How Aha Really Works“. Since we are heavily focused on enabling innovation, this article is a home run and I urge you to read it. I won’t rewrite it all here, but some points are worth repeating to get others to read the article and offer your insights, too.
I read a very interesting article today from Business Week entitled “Startup Fever: College Students Have it Bad“. The author cites several universities that are seeing an increase in students starting businesses while still in school and the rise of classes designed specifically to help these students get started.
